2009 DMAD Event in Cozumel
| The 2009 DMAD Dive Drive
Event went off without a hitch (well, almost)! It was a bit scary
during the last days of preparation: the H1N1 Flu virus scare threatened
to thwart our efforts, but fortunately things in Mexico stabilized and
Cozumel continued to exist without a single case during our stay.
In fact: due to the cancellation of cruise ship stops there, the island
was quieter than any other time we've visited - but that was a mixed
blessing: the local economy suffered a bit, but we had much less other
traffic to contend with at restaurants, stores, and other places.
All in all - an interesting event was held.
The weather was between 84 and 87 every day, and we had only momentary rainfall from time to time. The dives were spectacular: several nurse sharks, hawksbill turtles, porcupine fish were spotted.... even a pipe-nosed seahorse and a few trumpet fish showed up... along with thousands of fish of many varieties! Our adventure to Punta Sur - the Devil's Throat (one of the more challenging dives on Cozumel) - was executed under ideal conditions and was both exhilarating and exciting! Here is a few photos of our stay.... hope you enjoy them!!! |
